Children's Braille Book Club

CBBC-Free Program Information Page

Since 1983, The Children's Braille Book Club (CBBC) has been a subscription-based program where National Braille Press sends a new print/braille picture book every month for a small fee.

Thanks to a several generous donations and a matching program from the NewCo Foundation, the next year of Book Club will have 300 free memberships available to qualified families! The goal is to make all subscriptions free over the course of five years.

These free memberships will last one year, from April 2022 to March 2023. At the end of this period, we’ll open the application process to everyone again (members will need to reapply each year).

Eligibility

    • The CBBC-Free Program is available to blind children ages birth to 10 years old* or parents/legal guardians who are blind and have children ages birth to 10 years old*.
    • Limit one Book Club membership per eligible child or household.
    • The free program is only open to US residents.
    • Enrollment is limited and will be based on eligibility/need criteria and on a first-come/first-served basis.

*We will accept applications for children who are older than 10 years old who have an Individualized Education Program (IEP) with reading levels lower than 10 years of age.

As we continue to build support for the free program, we will still be offering a paid option with the goal to make CBBC free for all in the next 5 years.

If you have questions about the program, email us.

Applications for the free Children's Braille Book Club are now closed.
